Write for us
We welcome pitches from writers who can make a sporting detail clear, vivid, and worth a reader's time. A useful proposal begins with a precise question, not a broad promise to cover a whole sport.
Subjects to pitch
We consider explanatory, comparative, historical, and occasion-specific pieces about rules, game formats, tactics, equipment, and sporting traditions. Ideas should suit curious general readers and remain useful without relying on statistics, studies, first-hand testing, or current results.
What makes a strong proposal
State the working title, the central question, the category it might fit, and what a reader will understand by the end. Explain why the subject is distinct from familiar coverage and note any specialist terminology that needs careful explanation. Keep the proposal focused enough to show the shape of the finished piece.
Sending a pitch
Send your proposal through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. A pitch is not a promise of publication; allow room for editing and for checking the context of the subject. Please do not send material that depends on private or confidential information.
